A Timurid carved grey schist inscription panel of narrow rectangular form; the top finely carved with a delicate arabesque interlace and lotus flower decoration; below a Kufic poetic inscription. – The Timurid dynasty was a Sunni muslim dynasty of Turco-Mongol lineage who descended from the warlord Timur (also known as Tamerlane). The Timurid dynasty was strongly influenced by Persian culture and is mostly known for establishing two very powerful empires in history, namely the Timurid Empire (1370-1507) in Persia and Central Asia and the Mughal Empire (1526-1857) in the Indian subcontinent.
